Running Amok in the Halls of Justice?

Twice Barry and April James have seen everything they own put at peril.

On June 27, 1990, a fast-moving 4,500-acre arson fire devastated their neighborhood and, like thousands of others that day, the family lost their home and it's entire contents. Gone were four generations worth of a family's mementos - pictures, heirlooms and keepsakes. Gone also were the entire inventory and records of a business they had operated from the home as well as book manuscripts, original art and valuable antiques.

Business As Usual
What's different this year? Some abuses became too big to sweep under the carpet. Now every time anyone scratches the surface, they turn up criminal behavior -- who'da thunk it? Expect a few unlucky souls to shoulder the blame -- while the rest of the suits go back to Business Abuse as Usual. The country, it's citizens and our sense of fairness will all pay a much greater price.

Homeland (In)security
Do we as a nation need to go further into debt to fund a new super-agency, or is it good money after bad? And do we need to give such an agency and the other law enforcement unprecedented powers at the expense of the hard-won rights of citizens? Or would it be better just to make them accountable?

It's Great to be a Corporation
Great tax-breaks, freedom from liability, and all of the politicians money can buy. Who would ever choose to be a mere United States citizen? But, you know it's still better to be a Board Member of an American corporation. The Board members of American corporations have unprecedented power -- much of it gained at the expense of the corporations owners -- otherwise known as stockholders. Is it accurate to refer to such a system as "Capitalism?"
